Spend time with trees
because you dreamed the best tree
the tree galloping with stars in its mane.

Chasten yourself to hope.
One tree will come.
When you fall asleep
A tree will sniff your hand.

Go to that tree
and gentle it down.
Sit quiet when the wind
makes it dance and dart
and speak with your new voice
the voice of old boards.
She’ll come to you then
and hide in your sleep.
She’ll be covered and safe
as hay in a dry barn.
